Feeding the Valley serves as a center to gather and distribute donated food products. We collaborate with member partner agencies that receive the food from our warehouse and then distribute to families in need within their neighborhoods. Because of our large area of service, these agencies area a vital outreach to families in need. We pick up and receive truckloads of food and grocery products from national and local retail donors. In addition, area businesses, individuals, civic groups, schools and churches conduct food drives throughout the year to provide additional food for this program. All food received by Feeding the Valley is sorted and inspected before being put on the warehouse floor for distribution. The Food Bank distributes on average of more than 500,000 pounds of food on a monthly basis.

Nearly 21% of Columbus residents live below the poverty line. Making ends meet is a huge struggle for many of our Columbus neighbors, and that includes finding the resources to provide nutritious meals. Valley Rescue Mission stands ready to meet this need through our daily Loaves & Fishes Meal Ticket program. Each day, our dining room doors open at 3:45 p.m. for anyone in need to enter and find a warm smile, an encouraging word, and a healthy meal. We start with a brief devotional thought, a prayer of thanks for the provision of the food, and then it’s meal time. During the summer months, we have many families with children join us; their kids receive a free lunch at school during the academic year, but stretched finances may not allow for feeding them adequately when they’re home for the summer. We are always glad to see them.
