Action Ministries – Garden Lakes Evening Food Pantry at Garden Lakes Missionary Baptist Church

The Garden Lakes Evening Food Pantry is located at Garden Lakes Missionary Baptist Church at 2200 Redmond Circle and is open Monday and Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. This pantry is situated across town from The Bagwell Food Pantry and is open after business hours in an effort to serve both families with limited transportation and those who are working during the day. Through the generous work of many volunteers, visitors are served with about two weeksâ€™ worth of groceries. This pantry serves an average of 30-40 families each day. Each family who comes through the pantry leaves with a basic bag of shelf stable food, including items such as canned goods, breakfast items, rice, flour and peanut butter, as well as fresh produce, fresh or frozen meat, bread and sweets. Families with children under 18 also receive additional bags of SNAP food. Our guests who come to us from the Cancer Navigators program or the AIDS Resources Council are given some additional nutritional items such as Boost, Ensure or Gatorade. Visitors who come to the pantry are served on a referral basis. Our referral network spans throughout Rome and Floyd County with most of our referrals coming from Good Neighbor Ministry, DFCS and several downtown churches.

Action Ministries – Bread of Life Weekend Food Pantry at New Life Church of God

The Bread of Life Weekend Food Pantry is located at New Life Church of God at 210 East 18th Street and is open from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday mornings. This pantry is considered a crisis pantry and exists for families who are unable to get to the other pantries during the week. Through the generous work of many volunteers, visitors are served with about two weeksâ€™ worth of groceries. This pantry serves an average of 50-60 families every weekend and in 2011 served more than 24,000 weeks worth of groceries. Each family that comes through the pantry leaves with a basic bag of shelf stable food, including items such as canned goods, breakfast items, rice, flour and peanut butter, as well as fresh produce, fresh or frozen meat, bread and sweets. Families with children under 18 also receive additional bags of SNAP food. Located at The Faith Center at 207 East 19th Street, the Bagwell Food Pantry is open four mornings each week (closed on Wednesdays). Through the generous work of many volunteers, visitors are served with about two weeks worth of groceries. This pantry serves an average of 30 to 40 families each day and in 2011 combined with our other pantries to serve more than 24,000 weeks worth of groceries. Each family who comes through the pantry leaves with a basic bag of shelf stable food, which may include canned goods, breakfast items, rice, flour and peanut butter, as well as fresh produce, fresh or frozen meat, bread and sweets. Families with children under 18 also receive additional bags of SNAP food. Our guests who come to us from the Cancer Navigators program or the AIDS Resources Council are given some additional nutritional items such as Boost, Ensure or Gatorade. The Bagwell Food Pantry is named for Margaret Bagwell, founder of the original Crisis Food Pantry at South Broad United Methodist Church more than 30 years ago.
